Fix keyboard, microphone, sign-in, limit and transcription problems on Android.
Updated 2026-10-06
The Dictāta keyboard does not appear
Make sure it is enabled in Android Settings -> System -> Keyboard -> On-screen keyboard -> Manage keyboards. Then tap a text field and use the keyboard switcher to select Dictāta.
"Microphone permission is required"
Open Android Settings -> Apps -> Dictāta -> Permissions -> Microphone and allow it, or open the Dictāta app to grant it.
"Session expired" or "Sign in required"
Open the Dictāta app and sign in again. The keyboard tries to restore your session automatically and shows "Updating session…" while it does.
"Monthly cloud dictation limit reached"
Open the Dictāta app and check your usage in Account. See Account and subscription. On-device mode does not use cloud minutes, see On-device mode.
"Network issue" or "Request timed out"
Check your connection and try again. If you often have a weak connection, download an on-device model and use the Switch to Local button.
"Too many requests"
Wait for the number of seconds shown and try again.
Nothing happens after the text is transcribed
Tap Regenerate to re-run the last dictation, or open Clipboard history on the keyboard and paste the phrase manually.
Transcription is wrong or in the wrong language
- Pick the dictation language in the language picker instead of automatic detection.
- Add names to the Glossary.
- Try the Accurate on-device model or Managed mode.
"Set your API key" or Context Actions need a key
You are in Own Key mode without a saved key. Open Account -> Settings, enter your OpenAI API key and tap Test connection.
Still stuck?
Open Account -> Contact support and send a short description with the steps to reproduce the problem.
