History

Open History

Open History from the main window's sidebar on macOS or Windows. Dictations are saved automatically; Ask answers, selected-text actions, and transcribed files also appear here. A file entry shows the file name and length, and its text is collapsed until you expand it.

History on this computer is separate for each account. Switching accounts shows that account's entries rather than another person's dictations. Sign back into the original account to see its history. This is local account separation. To see the text of your history on your other devices, turn on history in Sync across devices.

Available actions

• Search past entries.
• Copy a result to the clipboard.
• Regenerate a dictation using its saved audio and your current settings.
• Reopen an Ask conversation.
• Delete entries or clear the current account's history.
• Download selected entries as a .txt file.

Regenerate a dictation

Click the regenerate icon beside the entry. You can also press Option+Tab on macOS or Ctrl+Tab on Windows after a dictation to regenerate the latest eligible entry.

Regeneration needs the saved recording. It is useful after a failed transcription or when you want to apply different settings.

In the Regenerate transcript window, choose how to process the recording again:

• Transcribe (Fast when you use your own API key) transcribes it again in the language you spoke.
• Translate turns the same recording into text in another language. Pick the language from the list, then click Regenerate.

The window always opens on Transcribe. The language you pick for Translate applies to this regeneration only: your dictation language and prompt settings stay as they are.

The result is added to History as a new entry, and the original stays, so you keep both versions. A failed or cancelled dictation is filled in instead.

Translate a dictation you already made

You don't need to dictate again to get your words in another language. Open History, click the regenerate icon beside the dictation, choose Translate, pick the language, and click Regenerate. Dictāta processes the saved recording again and adds the translation to History as a new entry, next to your original dictation.

This works for dictations with a saved recording. Transcribed files can't be regenerated from History; add the file again on the File Transcription page instead.

Reopen an Ask conversation

An Ask conversation is grouped into one History entry as you add answered follow-ups. Use its regenerate/reopen action to bring the saved conversation back into the Ask window. Reopening a completed Ask result does not re-transcribe your spoken question or paste over the text in another app.

A failed or cancelled Ask entry can retry the saved request instead. Its result appears in the Ask window for review and copying because the original text selection may no longer exist.
