Install Dictāta

Start by installing Dictāta for your platform:

• Install on macOS
• Install on Windows

Sign in

Dictāta uses passwordless sign-in.

1. Open Dictāta.
2. Enter your email address.
3. Check your inbox for the 6-digit code.
4. Enter the code in the app.

You stay signed in until you explicitly sign out. You can also sign in using your Google account.

Grant permissions

Dictāta needs permission to record your voice and insert text into other apps.

• On macOS, enable Microphone and Accessibility permissions.
• On Windows, enable microphone access when prompted.

First dictation

1. Click into any text field in any app, such as a document, email, chat, browser, or note.
2. Start recording with your platform shortcut.
3. Speak naturally.
4. Stop recording.
5. Dictāta inserts the transcribed text where your cursor was.

Platform defaults:

Platform	Start / Stop recording	Double-tap shortcut
macOS	Option+Space	double-tap Option
Windows	Ctrl+Space	double-tap Alt

All shortcuts can be customized in Settings -> Interface.
